Continue to find rocks!

Rocks are always an issue following a renovation as most fo the soil throughout the entire golf had been disturbed in one way or another.  Today we have started pencil tining the greens for 2 reasons - to help relieve soil compaction and improve water infiltration.  New tines were installed on the soil reliever and it was sent out to the first green this morning.  Unfortuenately we found a large rock right along the perimeter of the green/collar with the machine.  These pencil tines do not handle rocks well and the picture below is damage that can happen.  The location of the rock has been recorded and will be removed prior to the summer maintenance.  It is not at all uncommon to find rocks especially when going down 7 inches into the soil.  Tines will be replaced and we will continue the process this week.
