May 30, 2017

Rough shaping on holes 1 & 9 wrapped up today and the lead shaper has moved over to the 3rd green complex.  He should have the green complex wrapped up by end of day Wednesday after which work will shift to the other features on the 3rd hole.  Once 3 is complete work will back up to the 2nd hole.  The scheduled route of work will then go 4 thru 8, 15 thru 18 before wrapping up on the driving range complex and 10 and 11.  Drainage was also being installed in the 14th green along with the gavel layer.  Bunker shaping continued on the 13th and 14th holes.

One important message I would like to get out to the membership, weeds and grasses are and will continue to grow throughout the golf course during the renovation.  Staff are spraying these areas and will continue to do so throughout this process.  We were aware that this was going to happen and continual applications would be made to control any growth.

Memorial Day 2017

Something a little different today.  Shortly after being hired as the golf course superintendent at NLCC my wife and I added a dog to our family, Cooper. He has spent a lot of time running around the golf course, usually first thing in the morning before most of the members wake up.  He doesn't come to work with me much anymore, mainly due to his age and he has 2 artificial rear knees.  When he does come he has a good time.

Shaping of the 1st green complex is moving very quickly.  The green and surrounding area may be wrapped up today or first thing Friday morning.  Friday and Saturday tee work along with waste bunker and fairway features will be done.  Drainage is being installed in the 13th green and mix should be installed Friday.  Enjoy!

Wadsworth finished installing the drainage and gravel layer on the 12th hole.  Wednesday they will begin the same work on the 13th green.  Once that is complete greens mix will be installed in those two greens before work moves to the 14th.  The green well on the 9th hole has been completed and the rough shaping around the green is very close to being completed.  Removal of the asphalt is ongoing and should be wrapped up by the middle of next week. Work is progressing and it is an exciting time at the club.  I will continue to make every attempt to post photos and video daily.  Please pass the link onto other members who may be interested in seeing the ongoing work.

Today on the course:  The lead shaper and his bulldozer have been moved to the 9th hole.  Shaping of the green complex is scheduled for today and Tuesday.  Wednesday the fairway features will be done.  Installation of the drainage and gravel layer has started on the 12th hole.  Once this is completed the greens mix will be installed.  Work will then move onto 13 & 14 greens.  Stripping of the sand and gravel on the 4th hole was completed and then the contractor started the 15th.

Work continues.  Unfortunately the bulldozer hit the 6" mainline on the 14th hole late Thursday.  This was quickly repaired Friday morning and the system was pressurized.  Almost all of the bury pits have been dug and stripping of the tee/green complexes should be wrapped up late next week.  Shaper will finish up the 14th features Saturday and on Monday will move to the 9th hole.

Very busy day on the course.  The 12th, 13th & 14th greens have been approved by APDC for drainage.  Features on 12th hole were completed and the tee complex has almost been floated out.  Shaper has begun to shape 14th features.

Busy day of renovation on the golf course.  The lead shaper did some work on the 14th fairway/rough areas and then moved back to the 12 hole to work on the new features.  The bunkers on the left side of the 12th hole were removed and then began to shape the waste bunker area.  Once completed he will move over to the right side and remove the bunker and shape.  The finish shaper started today and he did his initial float of the greens wells on 12, 13 & 14.  Once these were completed he began to shape and level the 12 tee boxes.  Elsewhere, bury pits were being dug.  Strippings on 1 & 9 greens and tee complexes were removed and put in the bury pits.  A few photos of the work on 12 & 14.
