#3 Irrigation Leak

An extremely stubborn irrigation leak on the 3rd hole has been repaired.  We have also come to find that not far away the HOA irrigation mainline also has a leak which will hopefully be repaired Tuesday.

Getting ready for next summer

Brought the big aerifier out to make sure it is ready to go for late spring/early summer.  Prior to the 2017 renovation the staff went through every fairway/tee with this unit.  It’s main purpose again will be to find the rocks that in the range or 3-6 inches.  The tines on this unit are currently 1” solid steel tines.  Staff will follow behind and mark all the areas were the unit hits rocks and they will be dug up and disposed of.  Don’t worry, this work will be mostly completed following our season.  When watching this video it is important to keep in mind this unit weights 3,000 pounds.  It hits rocks large and hard enough for this unit to lifted off the ground.

Tuesday Morning

It is a beautiful Tuesday morning here at NLCC!

Decrease in soil temps

The two photographs below indicate the soil temperatures in the 4th green 14 days apart.  This dramatic decrease is a excellent example of how cloudy, wet and cold days can dramatically change the soil temperatures.  This decrease in temp has a dramatic affect on how much the grass grows.  Warm season grasses do not like cold soil temperatures which is why during the winter months any recovery from injury is greatly reduced.  We are lucky enough this far south that the grasses very rarely go dormant.  Growing conditions typically stay just right to keep everything green but growth is minimal.

Clipping Yields

The attached photos show how we measure the volume of clippings removed from the greens daily. This allows us to monitor growth and help aid us in growth regulator applications and other cultural practices.

Concrete work

Final repairs are being made alone Prestwick Drive from a major irrigation repair.  Since we were ordering the concrete from Cemex we took the opportunity to add some bollards to protect the entry gate system to the golf maintenance facility.

With 3” of rain over the past 3 days, coupled with extremely cloudy weather the staff vented the perimeters of the greens this morning.  Using a new product, Ninja Tines, we were able to do all the perimeters of the greens ahead of play.  You can barely even see the work was done.  After aerifying the debris was blown off the greens and the areas rolled.  Greens were then mowed and rolled for play.
